On 24 July 2024, a Technology Breakfast was held at the Cabildo de La Gomera, in San Sebastián, with the aim of highlighting the opportunities for development of the island through research, development and innovation (R+D+i), within the framework of the Canary Islands Smart Specialisation Strategy (RIS3). This event, organised by the Department of Universities, Science and Innovation of the Canary Islands Government, through the Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation and the Information Society (ACIISI), in collaboration with the Cabildo of La Gomera, sought to showcase the projects underway on the island and to visualise its great socio-economic potential.
The conference, which was attended by various representatives of organisations and companies from La Gomera, focused on creating an open space for participation and the discovery of new transformative projects. In addition, the views of local socio-economic agents were gathered in relation to the deployment of the actions planned in the extended RIS3, and proposals were compiled for the design of future policies in this area, especially in the new Canary Islands R&D&I Plan.
Jesús Conde, ACIISI technician, had the opportunity to present some of the innovative projects under implementation, including the AquaWind project. Our project was highlighted as an example of the kind of initiatives that can boost sustainable and technological development in the Canary Islands.
The event also offered a participatory space where attendees could discuss and share their ideas about future opportunities on the island, with a special focus on innovation projects in key sectors such as tourism and digitalisation. The day concluded with a networking session, facilitating the creation of new synergies among participants and reinforcing La Gomera’s commitment to innovation and sustainable development.
This Technology Breakfast consolidates as an essential pillar in the governance process of the extended RIS3, marking a step forward in the long-term development strategy of the island.
