Successful Technology Breakfast in Fuerteventura: Boosting Development through the RIS3 Strategy

On 31 January 2024, a Technology Breakfast was held at the Fuerteventura Training and Conference Centre, highlighting the opportunities for development of the island through research, development and innovation (R+D+i), within the framework of the Canary Islands Smart Specialisation Strategy (RIS3).

The event, organised by the Department of Universities, Science and Innovation of the Canary Islands Government, through the Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation and the Information Society (ACIISI), and in collaboration with the Fuerteventura Island Council, brought together various actors from the local socio-economic ecosystem. The meeting served to present the projects underway that reinforce the potential of the island, as well as to identify new initiatives that can boost the socio-economic growth of Fuerteventura.

Among the projects highlighted during the day was the AquaWind. Javier Roo, Head of R&D&I Projects at ACIISI, was one of those in charge of presenting this and other projects, offering an overview of the actions being carried out in the Canary Islands.

The event also included a participatory space where attendees could share their ideas and visions on the deployment of the extended RIS3, fostering an enriching and collaborative dialogue. Finally, the breakfast culminated with a coffee-networking session that facilitated the exchange of contacts and the creation of new synergies among the participants.

This Technology Breakfast not only served to showcase the progress already achieved in terms of R&D&I in Fuerteventura, but also opened up new opportunities to continue driving the economic and social development of the island through innovation.
