The AquaWind project took part in the Conference for Wind and Wildlife Impacts (CWW), held in Montpellier (France) from 8 to 12 September 2024. This international event brings together experts, researchers, policymakers, and industry representatives to discuss the effects of wind energy on wildlife, as well as to share innovative solutions that support a sustainable energy transition.
Our colleagues from WavEC Offshore Renewables represented AquaWind in Parallel Session 15, dedicated to future challenges, emerging solutions, and new technologies. On 10 September, they presented the preliminary results of the underwater noise monitoring carried out within the project.
The presentation, entitled “Exploring the Underwater Noise Impacts of Multiuse projects in the offshore environment: Floating Wind and Finfish Aquaculture”, showcased early findings on the acoustic impacts in the marine environment of multiuse projects that combine floating wind energy with finfish aquaculture. These initial results provide a key basis for better understanding the interactions between different activities at sea and ensuring a responsible management of marine ecosystems.
AquaWind’s participation in such a prestigious forum as CWW highlights the project’s international dimension and its role in advancing scientific and technical knowledge on the compatibility between offshore renewable energy production and the development of other sustainable economic activities.
