The ULPGC supports two academic research projects linked to the European AquaWind Project

The European AquaWind project already has two academic papers developed within the framework of its lines of research and supported by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC).

The first of these is the Final Degree Project in Marine Sciences entitled ‘Analysis of the colonisation of marine biota in ocean cages’, carried out by Ruth Arencibia Pérez under the supervision of Ricardo Haroun Tabraue and Francisco Javier Roo Filgueira. The research, available in the ACCEDA institutional repository, analyses the processes of biological colonisation in ocean cages, providing key information for understanding the marine ecosystem around open sea farming infrastructure.

The second is the Master’s Final Project in Marine Aquaculture, written by Pablo Marro Ramón and supervised by Francisco Javier Roo Filgueira, entitled ‘Implementation and validation of an offshore aquaculture cage prototype for integration into a multi-purpose platform: Biological testing with the model species Dorada (Sparus aurata)’. This study focuses on the validation of an offshore cage prototype integrated into a multi-purpose platform, evaluating its performance with gilthead seabream as a model species.

Both theses represent an important step forward in generating knowledge applied to offshore aquaculture and the integration of uses in the marine environment, providing scientific evidence to support AquaWind’s advances.
