On 19 February, AquaWind project coordinator Javier Roo participated in the workshop ‘Navigating the Energy Transition: Strategic Goals for Resilient and Sustainable Aquaculture’, organised by the Energy Transition Partnership (ETP) of the European Commission (DG MARE). This hybrid event, held in Brussels in an online format, brought together industry experts to address the challenges and opportunities in the energy transition of aquaculture in Europe.
During his intervention, Roo presented AquaWind as an innovative case study in the integration of offshore energy and aquaculture. He explained how this pioneering project combines floating wind energy with aquaculture production, promoting energy efficiency and sustainability in the sector. His presentation highlighted the potential of innovative solutions to move towards climate neutrality by 2050.
The workshop addressed key issues for the energy transition in aquaculture, such as the challenges and opportunities for the sector, the conditions necessary to implement sustainable solutions and the tools to overcome technical and regulatory barriers.
AquaWind continues to position itself as a reference in the search for sustainable models for aquaculture in Europe, contributing with innovative solutions to advance the decarbonisation of the sector.
