Today, 4 October 2024, in the framework of the Blue Up event, Michelle Perello, CEO of Consulta Europa, presented the AquaWind project, a key example of integration of offshore renewable energies and aquaculture. This pioneering initiative has aroused the interest of young talents looking to make a contribution to the development of the Blue Economy in the Canary Islands.
During his speech, Perello highlighted how AquaWind, by combining offshore wind energy with sustainable aquaculture, is opening up new opportunities for the maritime and energy sectors at both regional and European levels. The session served as inspiration for the young people in attendance to create their own creative Blue Economy ideas, which they will showcase at the Blue Up competition.
Blue Up, the largest project competition in this field, invites talented young people to join an exciting three-island experience with the mission to generate innovative solutions that address the real challenges facing the oceans and sustainable development. Participants will have the opportunity to learn through dynamic and creative methodologies while collaborating in multidisciplinary teams that foster diversity of ideas and approaches.
Participants will not only have the opportunity to travel between the islands with their travel expenses covered, but will also receive a certificate of participation and free access to an online course specialised in Blue Economy. This competition not only aims to be a platform for disruptive ideas but also to position the Canary Islands as a benchmark for innovation and sustainability in the marine environment.
